Details
The International Club is organizing its third annual Walkathon, entitled “Walk for Children: 1 Malaysia” which will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2012.
The International Club of the International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL), a student-led club founded upon the two pillars of cultural diversity and community service, is organizing its third annual Walkathon, entitled “Walk for Children: 1 Malaysia”, in partnership with the MY Club of the ISKL, a student-led club that aims to celebrate and raise awareness of Malaysian culture. The event will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2012 at Padang Merbok.
The International Club was founded in January 2008. It has approximately 25 student members in the High School, ranging in ages 14-18, who have been involved in celebrating “International Week” and International Fest. In service to our greater community, our club works with disadvantaged children by providing them with education in English, Math and Computer studies through weekly visits to their shelters.
The MY Club comprises approximately 30 students. The majority of which are Malaysians of different root ethnicities. The club organizes school-wide activities to promote and celebrate Malaysian culture such as assemblies and International Fest drum performances. We also provide service to the local community by going to local orphanages such as Anbu Ilam to assist orphans in any way we can.
In addition to working with students at ISKL, the International Club is partnering with students at Malaysian schools to make this a truly united youth movement.
The objective of this walk is to raise funds and awareness of the poor and disadvantaged youth in Malaysia; embrace cultural diversity and promote national unity; promote global citizenship; and support Shelter: Home for Children and Rumah Jalinan Kasih, in their aid of orphaned and neglected children.
Mission
Our goal for this year’s Walk-A-Thon is to raise RM100,000 excluding costs for the two designated Malaysian charities, Shelter Home Malaysia and Rumah Jalinan Kasih. Our targeted audience size is 1500 people. We plan on reaching out as much as possible to school children and other members of the Malaysian community, and your presence will undoubtedly help to attract more participants to the event.
