French stars frustrated in Belarus
The european champion France began with a false start the campaign for the qualification of the World Cup 2018. "Roosters" failed to win their visit to Belarus in the first match of Group "A" qualification. The main change from Euro 2016, which the French coach Didier Deschamps decided to do was to use Layvin Kurzawa and Djibril Sidibé instead the veterans Patrice Evra and Bakary Sagna. Raphaël Varane, who missed the championship on the continent because of injury, started again. During the first part the French played without any idea and logically did not create anything interesting in front of the opponent. The hosts, in turn, played retracted and tried to counter-attack whenever possible. After the break France woke up and during the period between the 50th and 70th minute the players of Didier Deschamps created many clear situations that could have led to a goal. Olivier Giroud, Paul Pogba and Kevin Gameyro missed their chances, and a few times the goalkeeper Gorbunov was on the right place. The culmination was when Varan hit the post with a header after a corner. So France failed to launch successfully the new qualification cycle.
